Healthy arteries are unobstructed on the inside, as one ages plaque, which is made up primarily of cholesterol, calcium, can build up in the walls of arteries. As more plaque builds up, your arteries narrow and harden. This is commonly known as hardening of the arteries, which can lead to Carotid Artery Disease which is a serious health problem as it often leads to stroke.
